Minister John Gormley visits Harbour View Community Garden

As promised on Twitter, I am delighted to report that Minister for Environment, Heritage and Local Government John Gormley TD’s visit to the community garden was a great success yesterday. Allotment holders turned out in force to meet the Minister and show off our gardening skills…well, we deserve some praise after all that hard work!
Organised by Pat Kavanagh, Wicklow town’s budding Green Party rep. John visited with his entourage of Co. Wicklow representatives. This was a great coup for our project putting us firmly on the map, as not only a successful allotment project but also a project that has brought the community together.

The Minister was most impressed that we had achieved so much with our small Local Agenda 21 grant. He mentioned that a new round of funding has just been released, which is great news as there is still a lot to do in terms of taking the project forward. Good press turnout so expect to see snaps in papers soon…here is a taster (bit of a drizzly day but didn’t dampen the spirits at all):
