Well polished, warm

Garden design brief
The design for this compact rear garden had to be constructed to the highest level of quality. All materials were carefully considered for their use, durability and for what they would add to the aesthetic of the garden: they all had to work together as a cohesive design. Our fabulous, friendly clients demanded the very best from us in terms of design and installation throughout and we are so pleased that they decided to invest in their garden.
The garden, albeit small in stature, had to deliver the perfect picture for our clients from whatever the vantage point: we had to create a pleasing, useable raised patio area to the outside of the kitchen (at the same level as the kitchen floor) and, divided by a raised planter, space for parking two cars at the lower level along with a second, optional seating area that felt like a nice place to sit with or without the cars present; not bad considering the size of the space.
To the lower level, and forming part of the dividing planter, we designed a concealed bin store (for three bins, each with its own access door) and a log store. Other features used in the design include a water feature with stonework by Sunny Wieler – one of his fine mosaic panels was also commissioned for the rear stone wall -, an oak wood pergola and a cedar clad storage shed. Other planters in the garden are finished in natural stone, cedar and zinc cladding. Lighting is also a key consideration in this garden and we are particularly fond of the step lights.
The planting selected was to be tolerant of the coastal, albeit sheltered location and provides interest across the seasons. We retained an existing Maple in the design and added new and interesting plants, such as a mature Olive tree and succulents to give a special planting design to our clients. My clients specifically wanted to use plants that they were unfamiliar with and which would add pizzazz to their project: a real boon for a plant obsessed designer!
The clients did not want ordinary, but they were after a well composed design in-keeping with the existing character and materials used on the house and its environs. We tried to deliver this brief across the design.
Tim and his team did an outstanding job on our small garden. It is truly a work of art and everyone who sees it is simply blown away. We wanted to create something really different, with real craftsmanship, style and flair – and that is exactly what was delivered. Tim’s team were the most polite and considerate and “lived” with us for quite some time as the project took shape. In all of the time, we enjoyed their conversation and marvelled at the attention that they gave to every detail. If ever we were to move to a bigger or different home, we would have no hesitation in engaging Tim and his team again. It would be our pleasure to work with Tim at any time in the future.
